Provably fair on PlayZone

"Provably fair" is a specific technical claim, not a slogan. It means you can check for yourself that a round's outcome was decided before you bet — and here is exactly how.

The problem it solves

In any online game the operator's server generates the result. Nothing about a normal game stops that server from looking at the bets first and then picking an outcome that suits the house. From the outside the two are indistinguishable: you see a result either way.

A commitment scheme closes that gap. The operator locks in the answer before seeing your bet, in a way that can be checked afterwards but cannot be reverse-engineered beforehand.

How PlayZone does it

1. A server seed is generated. Before the round, the server produces a long random value using a cryptographic random number generator.
2. The seed is hashed and published. The seed is run through SHA-256 and the resulting hash is shown to you before betting opens. A hash is one-way: it identifies the seed uniquely but reveals nothing usable about it.
3. You place your bet. At this point the outcome already exists, locked behind the hash.
4. The round resolves and the original server seed is revealed.
5. You verify. Hash the revealed seed yourself. If it matches the hash published in step 2, the seed was not swapped — meaning the outcome could not have been altered after you bet.

Why the hash cannot be faked

SHA-256 is a one-way function with two properties that matter here. You cannot work backwards from a hash to the seed that produced it, so publishing the hash early gives nothing away. And no one has ever found two different inputs that produce the same SHA-256 output, so the operator cannot swap in a different seed that happens to hash identically.

Together those mean the published hash is a genuine commitment: once it is out, the seed behind it is fixed.

What this does and does not prove

Being precise about the boundaries is part of the claim being meaningful.

Provable fairness is about the integrity of each round, not about the odds being in your favour. A perfectly verifiable game can still be one you lose money on over time, and PlayZone is no exception.

Verifying it yourself

You do not have to take the app's word for the check. SHA-256 is a public standard — paste the revealed seed into any independent SHA-256 tool and compare the output against the hash that was published before the round. Verification you run yourself is the only kind that counts for anything.
